- Q- What is Mounted Shooting?
- A- Mounted shooting is a fast paced event that involves horsemanship and shooting skills. Two .45 single action revolvers with special blank ammunition are used to engage balloon targets while riding your horse through a predetermined course. This is a timed event with penalties assessed for missed targets and overturned barrels.
- Q- Do I require special licensing to participate in Mounted Shooting?
- A- Yes, licensing is required to purchase, use and transport firearms. You must have a valid PAL (Possession & Aquisition License). - Q- Can my horse do this?
- A- Yes, most likely. Mounted shooters and their horses are put through a one day orientation to ensure that both are properly adjusted to gunfire. Horses and riders only advance when both are ready. Orientation costs are $150/person or $125 with a CCMSA membership. Visit the Orientations page for more information.
- Q- Is Mounted Shooting Safe?
- A- Safety is our number one priority. Protocols are strictly enforced to ensure safety to participants, spectators, and horses.
- Q- Where can I practice and compete?
- A- There are several sanctioned practices available to members. Membership cost is $75. per person, $50. associate membership or $30. junior membership. Benefits of membership encompass the insurance and range requirements for Mounted Shooting. Visit the Event Schedule page for more information.
